2020 Speakers

Specialty speakers include celebrity mermaids, marine scientists, scuba experts, free-diving champions, filmmakers, photographers, authors, artists and business coaches. Experienced specialists will teach attendees to sculpt their own ocean accessory, learn water safety fundamentals, discover scuba and freediving while other mermaid enthusiasts model for aquatic photo shoots, audition to become a professional mermaid with the mid-Atlantic’s most popular water artists, and peruse the mermaid-inspired wares of artisanal vendors.

Morgana Alba

Morgana is a professional circus performer and Washington D.C.’s original performing mermaid. Formally a world champion aerialist she turned to mermaiding in spring of 2012. In 2016 she created the Circus Siren Pod, the largest performing mermaid company in the Northeast. In 2018 Morgana put her engineering degree to good use by adding mobile tank shows. Today she owns and operates the tallest travel mermaid tank in the world and her award winning team travels both domestically and internationally performing for aquariums, casinos, festivals, fairs and corporate events: entertaining children and adults alike.

Seanna Ackermann

Seanna Ackermann (Anni) is the CEO and Owner of Mermaid Seanna, LLC and co-owner of the newest DC convention, Mer-Magic Con, a convention created for water lovers and mermaid lovers alike. Seanna is also a member of the largest east coast circus and mermaid international traveling aquatic show, the Circus Siren Pod. Seanna has been mentioned in the Washingtonian Post, the Washington Post, ABC Headline News, the Virginia Daily, Stubborn Magazine, and most recently, the award winning, youngest honoree of the Loudoun Business Time’s 40 under 40 Class of 2018. Seanna is an active volunteer for Make a Wish America, Curefest Inc for Childhood Cancer, and a previous volunteer for Leadership Loudoun.

Anna Clapper

Anna Clapper is a published scientist turned professional mermaid in Columbia, SC. Performing as “Aurelia the Deep Blue Mermaid,”  Anna has made appearances at art openings, birthday parties, festivals, and other events all across the Southeast. Most notably, she performed with the Circus Siren Pod throughout the 2018 season of the Carolina Renaissance Festival. Anna holds multiple, advanced-level SCUBA certifications, including PADI Rescue Diver, and is a certified freediver. She has more than ten years of lifeguarding experience, and has been a Lifeguard Instructor and First Aid/CPR Instructor through the American Red Cross for six years. Her company, Deep Blue Aquatics, not only provides exceptional mermaid entertainment, but also offers swim lessons, aquatic safety workshops, and life-saving certification courses.

Rebecca Hawk

Rebecca Hawk has been in the costuming and performing world for over 15 years. As a graduate of Cinema Makeup School’s makeup program, she often shares her spfx makeup and prosthetics knowledge with the cosplay community. Rebecca spends her free time volunteering at local hospitals as princesses and superheroes.

Singapore's First Mermaid

Syrena, Singapore’s First Mermaid is Singapore’s pioneer professional mermaid, and the founder of the Singapore Mermaid School. To date, Syrena has directed and performed in groundbreaking performances including Singapore’s first ever outdoor mermaid tank performance at the iconic ION Orchard, Singapore’s first live mermaid aquarium performance at the Singapore Zoo, and Singapore’s first and only mermaid performance atop the iconic 57-floor Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Syrena also has a weekly aquarium pool show – the first and only one of its kind in Singapore – ongoing at JW Marriott South Beach. Syrena has been featured on myriad news portals such as CNN, Singapore’s Channel 5 & Channel 8, Asia’s HGTV, Britain’s Channel 5, Japan’s NHK, Russia’s My Planet (coming winter 2019), The Diplomat, Shape Singapore, Her World Singapore, Singapore Women’s Weekly, Singapore Tatler, Singapore ICON, Marie Claire Malaysia etc.

Katja Undersea

Raised in the theatre, Kat has been working in front and behind the scenes for most of her life. A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Kat perform both live and on film as an actor, aerialist, stunt person and mermaid; and loves every second of it. A semi-retired SFX makeup artist, she adores working with prosthetics and complicated makeup, and her background as a singer helps in creating unique characterizations across her many disciplines.

Lila Jones

Lila Jones is a marine biologist and professional mermaid living on the island of Maui. Upon graduating with her bachelors in science from Hawaii Pacific University in 2013, she accepted a job as a fisheries observer in the Bering Sea, Alaska. Data she collected assisted NOAA with in-season management of multiple fisheries. Despite enjoying the rustic life Alaska offered, she felt compelled to reach a broader audience and returned to Hawai’i to pursue a career as a professional mermaid. She began offering lessons in 2015, and has since obtained her skin diving instructor certification from NAUI. In 2017 she began creating protocol for a NAUI instructor specialty specific to mermaiding and launched the Mermaid Level 1 course. In 2018 Lila launched her international Mermaid Dream Retreat program which brought participants to Mexico to meet whale sharks and sea lions face to face. With a focus on dive skills, ocean safety, and wildlife interactions, the retreats prove to offer participants an in-depth look at what it means to be a mermaid. 2018 was also the year she began public speaking events to help educate the public and other mermaids on using their performances as a platform for change. She was also accepted as an alternate for the nationally recognized mermaid performance group, Circus Siren Pod. In 2019 she began volunteering as a board member for the Hawaii Ecotourism Association after receiving an award for Maui’s Sustainable Tour Guide of the Year for her ongoing collaboration with Hawaii Mermaid Adventures. She also launched her Impact Apparel clothing line in January, 2019 which helps raise money for various non-profit organizations.

Brittany Walker

Brittany Walker runs Freya Accounting. Freya Accounting is a small business accounting and tax firm that caters to entertainers, performers, and some of the less than traditional types of businesses. She is a federally licensed tax preparer and a chartered financial analyst. Before she started her own business she was the CFO for a franchised company across the east coast.

Philo Barnhart

Philo Barnhart has had the pleasure of being one of the creators of the Little Mermaid, soon to celebrate its 31th year next year in 2020. Philo also has worked on Star Trek the Motion Picture soon to celebrate it 40th year!

Philo Barnhart is a Second Generation Disney legend. His Mother and Father worked for Disney on many animated cartoons during their golden age.

He has also worked several years in Disney Consumer Products. He designs various toys games and Puzzles.

Joining him is Charles D. Moisant. Charles has published comic book trading cards and books since the early 1990’s. He is currently developing a Board game with Michael Geba Titled “IT LIES”.

Mermaid Shannon

Mermaid Shannon has been a fixture in the pro mermaid community for many years. In addition to being an active ambassador for multiple chapters of Make-A-Wish in the USA, she is also a children’s book author, debuting her 3rd installment at the convention during our story time.

Mermaid Shannon has traveled the world, has a diverse aquarium performance portfolio, and has been covered extensively by press outlets both locally and globally. Her shows , service, and books all revolve around her principles of kindness and stewardship through education.

Melanie Canatella

Melanie has been an award winning, multi published professional photographer for four years in the Maryland area. She specializes in portraiture photography from business headshots to underwater to fashion. Her studio is located in Baltimore, Maryland, but travels all over for photo sessions.

Nate Leazer

Nate Leazer is the Founder/Owner of Blue Alchemy Freediving. He is also a SCUBA instructor at Coral Edge Adventures where he has been teaching since 2009. Nate began freediving in 2015 and worked his way up to becoming a Performance Freediving International (PFI) and SCUBA Schools International (SSI) freediving instructor. Nate has trained with several highly skilled Freedivers, to include former world record holder Ashley Chapman, and former national record holder Ted Harty. In addition to his teaching, Nate has since become involved with competitive freediving and has competed in several major international competitions, in 2018 he placed 2nd at Deja Blue 9 and 3rd at the Caribbean Cup. Currently Nate’s personal best is a 233 ft deep dive on a single breath and a breath-hold of 7:13.

Helena The Mermaid

Helena has been a professional mermaid for three years, and has used her mermaiding as a platform to increase awareness of Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT), a hereditary disease. When Helena’s CMT progressed to the point that she could no longer walk unassisted, she refused to let it slow her down, and upgraded her legs to a beautiful mermaid tail! Since then, she has performed mostly in the mid-Atlantic region, working at events including Waterfest, Faerie Con, Faerie Fair, Blackbeard Pirate Festival, and Baltimore’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and has recently become a member of Circus Siren Pod. As a public figure for CMT, she has done public speaking, has been featured in news stories both in the US and internationally, and has participated at special events for disabled children, encouraging them to find the magic in life. In addition to her performances and public appearances, Helena also owns her own Etsy shop, Fins & Seashells, where she sells custom, handmade mermaid accessories.

Mermaid Tasha

By the age of 20, Mermaid Tasha had already been to every continent except Africa and Antarctica. To this day, she continues to travel extensively both domestically and abroad and even works as a travel agent (specializing in tail-friendly destinations, of course!). In addition to performing with the Circus Siren Pod and helping people plan their perfect trip to paradise, Tasha also uses the skills she learned while receiving her Master of Business Administration degree to successfully manage the marketing aspect of several local companies. She is excited to share her love and knowledge of travel as well as the digital side of marketing with all who ask, so ask away!

Greg Surniak

Being the master of ceremonies, Ringmaster, barker, lifter, carrier and feeder to the most splendiferous icthiosapiens the world has ever seen, has not always been easy, but as they say nothing worth doing is easy. 

For over 10 years he has been making wonders, apparatus, and haberdasheries that have never existed out of steel, plastics, glass, wood and more. With the founding of Silken Alchemy, and the inclusion of new products regularly, he aims to be a one stop shop for your one of a kind needs.

K.M. Robinson

K.M. Robinson is the bestselling author of The Siren Wars Saga and many other young adult novels. She’s a social media strategist at Social Media for Bosses where she helps professional entrepreneurs create profitable businesses through smart social media marketing. She’s appeared on NBC, CBS, Business Needs Daily, Writer’s Weekly, and has been interviewed by Facebook for her innovative work in the field, has been featured in a major World Social Media Day broadcast, and has appeared on live broadcasts, podcasts, and blogs, as well as in-person events for social media strategy, photography, and writing.

Katey McCann

Katelyn began mermaiding in 2009, and started her professional career in 2012 as Katey Mermaid; Ohio’s First Mermaid. She owns The Ohio Mermaids, as well as performing with Circus Siren Entertainment.

Nicole Oliva

Nicole Oliva (Also known as Mermaid Aria or Siren Cloe) is a professional singer, mermaid, and overall performer from New York.  Nicole has hundreds of solo and theatrical performances to her accreditation in the realms of operas, musicals, and concerts. Since graduating with her BFA in Theatre Arts she has traveled all over the world telling stories through music with various opera and theatrical companies as well as bands and her own solo concerts. As a Mermaid she has specialized in aquatic performance and siren singing through various organizations and special events. On land recent favorites include the Off Broadway rock opera Absinthe Heroes, the European tour of THEM: Sweethollow Cemetery, A Little Mermaid concert at Lumino City Festival, and A Medley of Classical and Gospel Music at Carnegie Hall. 

Mermaid Michelle Mozdzen Esq.

On land, Michelle is an attorney and focuses her practice in the areas of intellectual property, mergers & acquisitions, technology, cyber law & litigation. She earned her law degree in 2010 from the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law, where she was a member of Phi Delta Phi and was part of the National Trial Competition and Mock Trial Teams. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in German Studies.  She also volunteers on the Board of Directors for Racing Home Greyhound Adoption, helping to place retired Greyhounds with their forever families.    

Michelle is at home in the water, and has been swimming competitively for 24 years. She actively competes in United States Masters Swimming, holding 26 top ten individual national times. When she’s not racing, Michelle enjoys sharing her love of the water as a professional mermaid, performing at events with Circus Siren Pod, at the Arizona Renaissance Festival, and at conventions, corporate events, and private entertainment events. In 2019, she was crowned Miss Mermaid Texas, and is the reigning champion of the MerMagic Con Merlympics
